About

To dupe my other "About" page: I'm a sysadmin. I'm a father. I'm a husband. I'm a Linux and Unix fan, and I love Emacs. I'm a member of the Free Software Foundation, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and Amnesty International. I've been a homebrewer, though I haven't brewed in a while. I'm an amateur astronomer. I'm a fan of free software and copyright reform. I made music, once.

This resonates with me, despite (because of?) its holier-than-thou air.

About the software

I've gone through a few different ways of hosting/running this blog. I started with WordPress, but grew to hate its GUI. I switched to a homegrown ASCIIDoc compiler. Then I found Chronicle, a Perl-based blog compiler. This time around, I've switched to Jekyll with the BlackDoc theme. Comments are locally hosted, because freedom of the press belongs to those who own one...which means, in these latter days, trying not to depend on external services for crucial things like discussion. That's a tradeoff, of course.
